The Concept:Modern Wind Turbine Generators has become world wide recognized as an economicalalternative to conventional electrical power generation.
However, so far the wind turbines have only been operative, connected to large and stiff electrical grids, which control the frequency and voltage. The new Wind/Diesel hybrid technology opens for a possibility to utilize the renewable energy source in remote isolated areas, where the grid structure is weak, insufficient or even not existing, and the cost of energy often constitutes a considerable part of the local economy.
In order to obtain an uninterrupted power supply, utilizing wind energy, it is necessary to be connected to a diesel generator back-up system, which will take over when the production from the wind turbines are insufficient, to cover the grid demand, thus securing 100% supply. The wind turbines are virtually always connectable to existing diesel generator sets. The new Wind/Diesel concept, allows the size of the wind turbine generators to exceed the size of the diesel generators.
The maximum fuel saving is achieved by declutching and stopping the diesel engine, when the wind energy is exceeding the grid consumption. Hereby the total demand is covered by energy from the wind turbines alone. The Wind/Diesel technology takes advantage in using the standard control systems, implemented with modern diesel generators that control the voltage and frequency, even with the diesel engine stopped or idling. If the energy production from the wind turbines is higher than the grid demand, the frequency is controlled by the use of a dump-load.
The dump-load can utilize the excessive wind energy for a numerous purposes. To list a few, excessive wind energy can be utilized as free energy for "Fresh drinking water production by desalination sea water", for "Cold Stores", for "Ice production used by fishing vessels", for "fish farming" etc. Fresh drinking water production can even become the main issue of the plant, with electrical power generation as a spin-off.
The Wind/Diesel concept is build‑up by functional blocks, easy to combine into a complete system suitable for the required purpose. All functional blocks are delivered as packages in standard containers.
Using standard components and well known technology for all the important functions has resulted in a simple, robust and extremely reliable system which is easy to operate and maintain. and remote areas with wind conditions suitable for wind turbines. Wind/diesel/desalination power systemsThe Danvest system is designed to be extended with fresh water production by desalination of sea water. The distillers operate by consuming all the excess heat and surplus wind power.

Existing diesel power stationsWhere an existing diesel power station is wanted to be integrated to as large an extend as possible, Danvest Energy has designed applications for converting an existing diesel power station to wind/diesel operation.
The existing diesel power station has to meet our demands and specifications. The fuel saving compared to the optimal and complete wind/diesel solution will not be at it´s optimum because the existing diesel engine is not allowed to operate below 20 - 30% of full load. PatentVital parts of the Danvest system are protected by a world-wide patent. which is easy to operate and maintain. The Danvest system is ideal for operation in isolated and remote areas with wind conditions suitable for wind turbines. Danvest Energy designs the total and most optimal solution and delivers complete stand alone wind/diesel power stations ready for connection and operation.
